writing prompt 2-8-07: someone coming home different

...Dee Dee...

Dee Dee had a headache,
splitting seven days
after she gave birth to her son.
And on her walk
from bed edge to bathroom
collapsed
from an aneurysm.

When Dee Dee woke up
a few weeks later
her brain and muscle were mush
and like her newborn
she had to learn everything
a new.

She couldn't even walk.

We took turns
showing her picture board flashcards
teaching her words
and shaping her ideas.

Everyday
was like meeting her for the first time.
She was as excited and frustatated
as we were-
watching her
and watching her son
struggle...
